A Burgmann Tradition Brings Young Mathematicians Together
Burgmann Anglican School welcomed teams from nine visiting schools on Tuesday 20 October for Year 10 Maths Day, a valued tradition we have hosted since 2010.
The event brings students from Canberra and the surrounding region together to challenge their mathematical skills in a competitive and enjoyable environment. With the Fibonacci Shield and Hypatia Plate at stake, teams tackled a full program of group challenges, practical puzzles and a fast-paced maths relay.
The different rounds required students to apply their knowledge in unfamiliar ways, explain their reasoning and work through ideas together. From identifying patterns to solving problems against the clock, success depended on teamwork and persistence as well as mathematical understanding.
Joining our Burgmann teams were students from Brindabella Christian College, Canberra Grammar School, Canberra High School, Marist College Canberra, Merici College, Radford College, St Francis Xavier College, St Peter’s Anglican College Broulee and Trinity Christian School.
Congratulations to Radford College on winning the Fibonacci Shield and Brindabella Christian College on receiving the Hypatia Plate.
A special thank you to the Year 12 students from Burgmann and Radford who assisted throughout the day, and to our Mathematics staff and visiting teachers for their time and commitment. Their support makes it possible to continue this longstanding opportunity for young mathematicians to compete, connect and learn together.
