Gifted & Talented

Gifted and talented learning at Burgmann Anglican School supports students who demonstrate advanced thinking, strong curiosity, creativity or particular strengths in one or more areas. Through extension, enrichment and, where appropriate, referral and acceleration pathways, students are encouraged to engage with challenge and continue growing as confident, capable learners.

Burgmann Anglican School recognises that giftedness can appear in different ways across a student’s learning journey. Some students may demonstrate advanced academic achievement, rapid learning, strong reasoning or deep curiosity, while others may show particular strengths through creativity, leadership, problem-solving, communication or independent thinking.

The School uses a range of observations, referral processes and age-appropriate identification tools to help recognise students who may benefit from extension or enrichment. These processes consider academic, creative, social-emotional and behavioural characteristics, recognising that gifted students may not always present in the same way or achieve consistently across every subject.

Opportunities for gifted and talented learners are designed to provide meaningful challenge, encourage deeper thinking and support students to explore areas of interest. For some students, this may include classroom extension, co-curricular enrichment, subject competitions or, where appropriate, consideration of subject acceleration.
