Identification and Referral

Students may be identified for gifted and talented support through teacher observation, parent input, referral forms and school-based checklists. These processes help build a broader understanding of a student’s strengths, interests, learning behaviours and potential areas for extension.

Academic Extension

Academic extension encourages students to engage with more complex ideas, apply knowledge in new ways and deepen their understanding in areas of strength or interest.

Competitions and Programs

A range of co-curricular and academic programs, including debating, Tournament of Minds, STEM activities, Mock Trial and subject competitions, provide opportunities for students to challenge themselves beyond the classroom.

Creativity and Curiosity

Students are encouraged to explore original ideas, creative thinking, problem-solving and inquiry-based learning. These opportunities support students who enjoy open-ended tasks, independent projects or deeper exploration of topics that interest them.

Social-Emotional and Learning Awareness

Gifted students may experience learning, relationships and expectations in different ways. Some may also have additional learning, attention, organisation or social-emotional needs. Recognising the whole student helps staff provide support that responds to both their strengths and areas of need.

Subject Acceleration

Where appropriate, subject acceleration may be considered for students in Years 6 to 12. Readiness is considered carefully, including academic achievement, motivation, independence, resilience, teacher endorsement and family support.
