Learning Beyond the Classroom

Jun 22, 2026 3:54 PM

While supporting the learning of others each day, Michelle Roberts, Elizabeth van Oyen and Natalie Wright have also been pursuing significant learning of their own.

At the end of this semester, the three experienced Junior School educators will complete their Master of Education (Leadership) degrees, balancing years of study alongside full-time teaching and family commitments.

Their achievement is a wonderful example of lifelong learning in action. It also reflects a culture of professional growth at Burgmann, where staff are encouraged to continue developing their knowledge, skills and practice throughout their careers. Michelle, Liz and Natalie have continued to challenge themselves, deepen their expertise and model the curiosity and growth we encourage in our students every day.

The experience was made richer by undertaking the journey together, encouraging one another, exchanging ideas and providing accountability along the way.

Michelle reflected on the persistence required to balance study and work.

"Balancing study with full-time work comes down to consistency, making small, regular progress each day, carving out dedicated time and staying focused on the bigger goal."

Michelle Roberts

Natalie highlighted the value of completing the experience alongside colleagues.

"Completing a Masters alongside two other dedicated colleagues made the experience rewarding as we were able to support each other throughout the process, providing constructive feedback and professional accountability."

Natalie Wright

Congratulations Michelle, Liz and Natalie on this significant achievement.
