International Day for Women and Girls in Science
Today, on International Day for Women and Girls in Science, we are proud to highlight three of our high-achieving science students.
Already excelling across their science subjects, they were among 60 girls from schools across Canberra invited to the Australian Federal Police Majura Forensics Facility in recognition of their curiosity, dedication and passion for STEM.
During the visit, they explored state-of-the-art forensic laboratories, engaged with real investigative techniques and connected with leading experts, including AFP Chief Forensic Scientist Dr Kylie Jones, who spoke about the importance of students seeing real scientists at work.
The students were accompanied by Belinda Cox, Burgmann's Gifted and Talented Program Coordinator, whose commitment to extending and supporting high-potential learners continues to open doors to experiences such as this.
Supporting girls in science is essential to building a future where diverse perspectives drive innovation and discovery. Opportunities like this empower students in STEM, strengthen their confidence and reinforce the message that their talents and ambitions belong in these fields.
