This term, our Year 4 students participated in The Resilience League, a wellbeing program led by Deputy Head of Junior School (Wellbeing), Brendon Pye, designed to equip students with practical skills to support their confidence, resilience and emotional growth.

Throughout the program, students explored a range of important topics including understanding and managing anxiety, recognising irrational thinking, developing assertive behaviours and learning strategies to navigate challenges. They also strengthened social and emotional skills such as conflict resolution, help-seeking and calming strategies. To celebrate their learning, students earned a badge at the completion of each lesson, recognising a newly mastered skill.

Student Voice

A highlight of the program was the opportunity for students to reflect on their learning and share the strategies that resonated most with them. Students spoke about understanding different behaviour styles, using fact finder thinking to challenge worried thoughts, recognising the connection between resilience and anxiety and learning how the Staircase Strategy can help people face challenges one step at a time.

Applying Their Learning

As part of The Resilience League, students were challenged to apply their learning through a Camp Staircase Challenge designed to support Year 3 students preparing for their first overnight school camp.

Using the Staircase Strategy, students created step by step plans to help younger students build confidence about sleeping away from home. The challenge encouraged students to draw on the concepts explored throughout the program, including resilience, positive thinking and problem solving, while considering practical ways to support others.

Congratulations to the students whose Camp Staircases were selected as class winners:

• 4A: Harry
• 4B: Charlotte and Maddi
• 4C: Kiara, Sarah and Adhya
• 4D: Alysha and Alice

The Resilience League has provided Year 4 students with practical tools they can continue to use as they navigate challenges, build positive relationships and grow in confidence.
