We want our Preschool children to grow as confident, capable individuals who take appropriate and challenging risks, develop the dispositions of lifelong learners, and approach the world with curiosity, resilience and self-belief within a culture of genuine care.

Early Years at Burgmann Anglican School provides a strong foundation for learning, wellbeing, belonging and care in a child’s earliest years. Burgmann Anglican School has offered a Preschool program for more than 25 years, and while the program has evolved and been known by various names, its commitment to educating and caring for the whole child remains constant. From 2027, our program will again be known as Preschool and will offer a high-quality, play-based learning experience for children aged 3 and 4.

The Preschool program forms part of Burgmann’s broader Early Years offering, supporting a purposeful and developmentally appropriate transition into formal schooling. In 3 Pre and particularly in 4 Pre, there is a strong focus on school readiness - nurturing social competence, emotional regulation, independence, oral language development and physical confidence within a safe and caring environment. Grounded in the Christian faith, the program fosters curiosity, resilience and responsibility, recognising each child as a capable and valued learner.

As part of the Early Years Expansion, Preschool learning for 3 and 4-year-olds will be delivered in a new purpose-designed facility at our Forde Campus, with enhanced indoor and outdoor environments that promote physical skill development, collaborative play and appropriate risky play experiences that build judgement and confidence.

Our Approach to Early Learning

Our Preschool program follows the Early Years Learning Framework Version 2.0 (EYLF V2.0) and is informed by the Reggio Emilia approach, emphasising learning through play, inquiry, creativity and relationships.

Aligned with the National Quality Standard (NQS), the program provides a balanced educational experience that supports:

  • Early literacy and numeracy development
  • Social and emotional regulation and resilience
  • Strong oral language and communication skills
  • Gross and fine motor skill developmentand physical confidence
  • Independence, collaboration, and problem-solving

We believe that a nurturing, inclusive and caring environment, combined with intentional teaching and rich social learning opportunities, ensures each child is known, supported and confident as they transition to school.

Why Early Years Education Matters

Our program supports each child’s holistic development by honouring who they are (Being), strengthening their connections with family, community and culture (Belonging), and guiding their growth and learning over time (Becoming). Through a considered blend of play-based learning and intentional teaching, our experienced early childhood teachers create inclusive and engaging learning environments where children are cared for, supported to explore and question, and empowered to grow in confidence as they prepare for a successful transition to school.
