Over two weeks, a group of Junior School students volunteered with Canberra City Care, supporting the annual Christmas Hamper drive.

Students were involved in everything from packing hundreds of hampers and sorting gift cards, to carrying bags to cars and helping in the centre’s shop. The CCC volunteers praised them for their respectful attitude, initiative and genuine willingness to help wherever needed.

Students reflected on how meaningful it was to work alongside the volunteers and to meet members of the community receiving the hampers. Some spoke about seeing people become emotional with gratitude, especially when they realised their families would receive not just food but also vouchers and gifts.

Between 400 and 500 families will benefit from this program, and our students were grateful to take part in something that offers care and dignity to others at Christmas.

We’re thankful to Canberra City Care for welcoming our students so warmly and creating such a valuable learning opportunity.
