Yorick, James, Aadvik, Ryan and Jaydet took on the STEM Formula 1 in Schools challenge with impressive dedication. Supported by Design Technology teacher Matthew Broadbent, they secured sponsorship, fundraised, designed and engineered their own car, and produced detailed portfolios for their entry.

Competing under the name Miowera, meaning emu and chosen to honour the Ngunnawal people, the team built a trade booth in just 20 minutes and presented a car that was both well designed and competitive on the track.

In their first year of competition they were named the winning ACT team and have now been invited to the national finals in March 2026. Across two days they gained technical experience, developed new skills and connected with teams from across the region.

Team Principal Yorick is already thinking ahead. “We want to build this into the school community and hopefully see future Year 9s and 10s competing in the professional class. Maybe in five years' time teams coming through Middle School could achieve even bigger goals.”

A fantastic achievement and a proud moment for our STEM program.
