This week, our Kindergarten students took part in Sparkie’s Fire Ed, delivered by ACT Fire & Rescue — an interactive and practical program designed to help young children understand fire safety and emergency awareness.
Students explored:
- How to confidently call Triple Zero (000), including which service they need and how to describe their location
- What to do in a fire at home, including identifying a safe meeting point and calling out to firefighters if visibility is low
- The ‘Stop, Drop, Cover and Roll’ technique
- Fire truck equipment, including hoses and the jaws of life
Each class received an activity book to take home, supporting family discussions around fire safety, smoke alarms and evacuation plans. Sparkie the Fire Dog (and his book) will also head home with each student on rotation, helping to reinforce key messages in a fun and familiar way.
We’re grateful to ACT Fire & Rescue for helping our youngest students build confidence, awareness and practical safety knowledge.
