Yesterday our Year 9 students were treated to a live performance of Such Sweet Sorrow by Bell Shakespeare’s touring ensemble, The Players.
This fast-paced and thought-provoking retelling of Romeo and Juliet brought Shakespeare’s iconic tragedy to life in under an hour, blending original text with modern commentary and physical theatre.
Students explored character motivations, narrative structure and Shakespeare’s language in a dynamic and accessible way. The performance supports their current English assessment task, where each student will present a dramatic monologue in character from Romeo and Juliet.
A highlight was seeing Mr Paul Hallett step into the action alongside the performers, to the delight of the audience.
It was an engaging and memorable way to deepen students’ understanding of the text and prepare them for their upcoming presentations.
