Recently, our Year 11 and 12 Drama students represented Burgmann Anglican School at Act Up! 2025, a dynamic theatre festival run by the Canberra Theatre Centre.

Guided by Senior School Drama Teacher Hannah Bennett, students engaged in a series of five specialist-led workshops designed to extend their skills in acting, collaboration and creative development. These in-school sessions, facilitated by professional teaching artists, culminated in a technical rehearsal and the creation of two original group-devised pieces.

On Friday 6 June, the group spent a full day onsite at the Canberra Theatre Centre, taking part in an acting workshop with a NIDA tutor, a costume design session with a professional artist, and a live theatre performance with cast Q&A. They then had the opportunity to perform their own works on stage at the Playhouse Theatre to an audience of 500.

We’re grateful to the Canberra Theatre Centre and all involved artists for their generosity and expertise. The feedback from staff was unanimous in praising our students’ creativity, professionalism and enthusiasm. It was a proud moment for the school and a valuable experience for our young performers.
