Preparing Year 10 Students for Senior School
Subject selection is only one part of preparing students for Senior School.
At Burgmann, Year 10 pathway planning is a staged process designed to help students and families make informed decisions about Years 11 and 12.
It begins with the Year 11 Information Evening and a detailed Academic Pathways booklet, followed by subject taster classes that allow students to experience courses before making their selections.

Students and their parents then meet with a key staff member for an individual transition interview. These conversations bring together each student’s interests, strengths, aspirations and subject choices, while also considering the habits and preparation needed for a successful transition into Year 11.
This individual guidance helps students understand not only which subjects may suit them, but how the decisions and routines they establish now can support their final years of schooling.
The result is a more considered pathway, shaped with the student rather than simply selected for them.
