Junior School Cleans Up

Last week, Junior School students pulled on their gloves and headed out with Clean Up Australia bags for their Term 3 Charity and Service Day.

Working through the Clean Up Australia Schools program, students collected litter from playgrounds, ovals and other areas around the Forde and Valley campuses.

Years 4 and 5 extended their efforts beyond the school grounds, cleaning along Gungahlin Drive, around the local Scout Hall and at the public wetlands adjacent to the Valley Campus.

By the end of the afternoon, students had filled bags and bags with litter from places used every day by our School and the wider community.

The spring clean gave students a practical opportunity to care for their local environment and contribute to the community around them.

Service learning is woven through life at Burgmann. From their earliest years at the School, students are encouraged to notice where they can help, take responsibility and contribute. It is a value they readily embrace because they understand that their actions matter to the communities they belong to.
