Management of Behaviour

It is important that Burgmann has a common approach to key disciplinary and pastoral actions, as listed below. We:

  • aim for a non-confrontational approach.
  • emphasise behaviour as a choice, and the concept of behaviour-ownership.
  • utilise the least-to-most-intrusive management style.
  • utilise related consequences.
  • work towards the development of positive corrective styles.
  • promote and support positive behaviour.
  • utilise the principles of 'cool-off time' and 'take-up time', and we support the notion of the dignified use of time-out.
  • consider the extenuating circumstances of the student.
  • utilise, where necessary, wide collegial support including such people as the school counselor.
