Practice Diary

Instrumental and vocal students at Burgmann are each given a Music Practice Diary upon commencement of their lessons. The purpose of this diary is to assist the students in organising their practice, record lessons times and details, record their weekly progress and aid in communication with parents.

One page is allocated to the student at each lesson. It provides feedback to students and parents regarding the work accomplished and work to be covered between each lesson.

Parents are asked to sign the diary each week and students are expected to take it with them to each lesson. This is to ensure that parents are informed of progress and are aware of any communication from the teacher. Occasionally, tutors will request the purchase of music or other necessary resources (eg reeds) through the Diary.

In addition to the diary being a very useful organising and communicating tool that provides information regarding progress, it also provides opportunities for support and recognition from other members of the School community.

The Music Coordinator will monitor the progress of the student's practice and work covered through the Diary and may occasionally visit the students during their lesson time to hear them play. The purpose of this is to encourage the students, offer support and recognise their improvement over time in an informal setting.
